WILLIAM BRUCE FROM CARDRONA, FIFE, ESCAPES JAIL AFTER POSSESSING OVER 1600 INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN

In December 2017, a 59-year-old man named William Bruce was spared imprisonment after admitting to possessing a significant collection of indecent images of children. The incident took place at his former residence in the Borders region, specifically in Cardrona, where authorities uncovered a disturbing cache of illicit material.

William Bruce pleaded guilty at Jedburgh Sheriff Court to the offence of possessing indecent images at a property located in Cardrona between March 2013 and January 2017. The court was informed that a total of 1,608 images and 216 movies were recovered from three different electronic devices belonging to him. The majority of these images fell into the category C classification, which is considered to be the least severe in terms of severity.

During police interviews, Bruce, who is now residing in Dunfermline, chose not to comment on the allegations. Following his guilty plea, the court imposed a community payback order that requires him to undergo supervision for the next 21 months. Additionally, restrictions were placed on his internet usage to prevent further access to such material. His name was also entered into the sex offenders’ register for a period of 21 months, marking a significant legal consequence of his actions.

Earlier in October 2017, similar details emerged when it was reported that William Bruce had been found in possession of over 1,600 indecent images and more than 200 movies depicting children at his residence in Cardrona. The case was brought before Jedburgh Sheriff Court, which was told that the illegal material was stored across three devices. The court noted that most of the images were classified as Category C, indicating a lower level of severity but still representing a serious breach of the law.

At that time, Bruce, who was then living in Dunfermline, also declined to comment when questioned by police. His case was adjourned until December 11, and his name was officially added to the sex offenders’ register, underscoring the gravity of his offences and the ongoing legal proceedings against him.
