NORTHAMPTON MAN JAILED FOR STALKING VICTIM AND USING AIRTAGS TO TRACK HER
Wayne Stead, aged 48 and residing on Stimpson Avenue in Northampton, received a sentence of two and a half years in prison along with an indefinite restraining order after admitting to charges of stalking that caused significant alarm or distress.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Stead had been harassing a woman through threats and by showing up unannounced at her residence following their relationship's collapse in 2023.
Additionally, he covertly placed an Apple AirTag in her car to monitor her whereabouts.
The police described her experience as 'nothing short of horrific,' praising her for her courage in reporting the incident.
The woman approached authorities in August 2024, claiming she feared for her life and had taken refuge in a hotel.
Initially, Stead denied the charges but later changed his plea to guilty before the trial, resulting in his imprisonment.
The court also imposed an indefinite restraining order, banning him from contacting her or coming near her home.
A related burglary charge was dismissed.
Law enforcement stressed the seriousness of his actions and the danger posed by the tracking device employed in this manner.
