WAYNE HILTON FROM MARYPORT REARRESTED IN CUMBRIA FOR VIOLATING COURT ORDERS AND ENDANGERING A CHILD
In August 2022, a serious legal development unfolded involving Wayne Hilton, a resident of Ewanrigg Road in Maryport, who found himself back behind bars due to violations of court-imposed restrictions. Hilton, aged 47, was previously convicted of a heinous crime and is now serving a lengthy prison sentence, but recent events have led to his recall to incarceration.Hilton appeared before magistrates at Carlisle’s Rickergate court to face charges related to breaching the conditions of his release. During the hearing, he admitted to the offence, stating simply, “It’s my fault.” The court was informed that Hilton, who was convicted of rape in 2016, had been recalled to serve the remainder of his original eight-year sentence. His release was scheduled for January 14, 2024, but his recent actions have interrupted this timeline.
The court proceedings revealed that Hilton had violated the terms of his registration as a sex offender. Specifically, he failed to notify the police within three days when he stayed at a residence where a child was also present. This breach of the legal requirements was taken very seriously by the magistrates, given the nature of Hilton’s previous conviction and the potential risk involved.
As a consequence of his latest offence, magistrates sentenced Hilton to an additional 24 weeks in jail. However, because this sentence is to be served concurrently with his existing prison recall, it will not extend his time behind bars beyond the original recall period. This means Hilton will serve the combined sentence without a longer overall incarceration period.
Reflecting on Hilton’s past, the court noted that his 2016 conviction for rape involved taking advantage of his victim, who later described the incident as having devastated her life. The judge at that time emphasized the severity of Hilton’s actions and the lasting impact on the victim, underscoring the importance of strict supervision and adherence to court orders for offenders like Hilton. The recent breach underscores ongoing concerns about public safety and the importance of monitoring convicted offenders to prevent further harm.
