BRADFORD MAN WASEEM AYUB CAUGHT BY INTERNET PAEDOPHILE HUNTER IN BRADFORD
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Bradford community, Waseem Ayub, a 34-year-old man from Southampton Street, Wapping, Bradford, was caught in a sting operation conducted by an internet paedophile hunter. The incident unfolded in June 2017, when Ayub believed he was communicating with a young girl on social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp.
According to court proceedings at Bradford Crown Court, Ayub was deceived by an individual posing as a teenage girl.
He was led to believe he was engaging with a 14-year-old girl, but in reality, he was speaking with an adult operating the sting.
During their conversations, Ayub falsely claimed to be 16 years old and engaged in inappropriate and explicit exchanges.
He asked the supposed girl about her attire in bed and inquired about her underwear, revealing his intentions and lack of regard for boundaries.
The court heard that Ayub's actions were part of a grooming attempt, with the clear motive of meeting a minor for illicit purposes.
He was charged and subsequently pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child following grooming efforts.
His sentencing reflected the seriousness of his actions.
Judge David Hatton QC sentenced Ayub to 18 months in prison, though the term was suspended for two years.
The court also imposed a 90-day rehabilitation activity requirement, aimed at addressing underlying issues and preventing future offending.
Additionally, Ayub was subject to a three-month curfew order, restricting his movements during certain hours.
Furthermore, the judge issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which places restrictions on Ayub's behavior and contact with minors.
He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for a period of ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring and public safety.
Judge Hatton QC emphasized the deceitful nature of Ayub’s actions, stating, “You lied about your age and it’s transparently the case that you had only one motive.” The case underscores the dangers posed by online grooming and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable minors from predatory behavior.
