WARREN BAINES FROM BOLTON SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR RAPE IN BOLTON AND MANCHESTER
In a significant case that has drawn considerable attention, Warren Baines, a resident of Bolton, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars following his conviction for a serious sexual assault. The sentencing took place at Manchester Crown Court, where the court heard detailed accounts of the incident and the profound impact it has had on the victim.
According to court proceedings, Baines was found guilty after a trial that revealed disturbing details about the 2016 attack.
The victim, who was present during the sentencing, had confided in friends shortly after the assault occurred.
However, it was only after she disclosed the incident to a counsellor that the matter was formally reported to the police, leading to Baines’s arrest and subsequent trial.
The court was informed that during the assault, Baines, who is 49 years old, had exhibited violent and reckless behavior.
An especially troubling detail was that he threw a puppy off the bed after it had entered the room during the attack, highlighting his disregard for life and the chaos of the moment.
Prosecutor Michael Lavery presented a victim personal statement, which painted a harrowing picture of the trauma endured.
The woman described Baines as a large and powerful man, stating, “He is a large and powerful man and I felt helpless when he forced himself upon me.
He clearly decided he was going to get what he wanted by attacking me in my bed.” She also shared that she has suffered from panic attacks over the past four years since the assault and expressed her fear of retribution from Baines, saying, “I fear he may take retribution out on me.
My life has been on hold for four years in fear of him.” Further, the court heard that Baines has a lengthy criminal history, including convictions for wounding, drug importation, and public disorder.
His past includes involvement in a major drug smuggling operation in the northwest of England, which was dismantled in 2003.
Baines was part of a gang that sought to flood Greater Manchester and Merseyside with illegal substances such as cocaine, heroin, and cannabis.
He was caught during a drug run and sentenced to eight years in prison, of which he is expected to serve approximately two-thirds.
Judge Hilary Manley, presiding over the case, sentenced Baines to ten years imprisonment.
In her remarks, she condemned his selfish and uncaring attitude, emphasizing the lasting psychological damage inflicted on the victim.
The judge noted that the victim had confided in her daughter and friends shortly after the assault, and had undergone extensive therapy to cope with flashbacks, suicidal thoughts, and severe trauma.
The court also observed Baines’s disruptive behavior during the trial, including shouting “liar” at the victim from the dock and bringing two men into the courtroom, one of whom caused a disturbance in the gallery, prompting the court to reconfigure the layout to protect the victim.
In addition to his prison sentence, Baines will be subject to an indefinite restraining order preventing him from approaching his victim.
The court’s decision underscores the severity of his crimes and the lasting impact on those affected, especially considering his long history of criminal activity and previous convictions for violence and drug offenses.
