74-YEAR-OLD MAN JAILED FOR NINE YEARS FOLLOWING RAPE
A 74-year-old man was convicted after admitting to a count of raping a woman aged 16 or older and a separate count of sexual assault.
Stephen Biggs, born on 04/03/1952 and residing in Furness Square, Bolton, appeared before Bolton Crown Court on Thursday, 2 April.
He was subsequently sentenced to nine years behind bars.
In late March 2025, a woman befriended Biggs and was invited by him to his home alone.
At his residence, Biggs administered an unknown substance to her, which caused her to become drowsy and eventually lose consciousness.
When she regained awareness, she discovered that some clothing had been removed, and found Biggs on top of her.
The victim was struggling to stay awake and fainted again.
Upon waking, she saw Biggs still on top of her with his trousers undone and was able to push him away.
The victim bravely shared in her interview: "Being older, this has really taken a toll on me.
It’s ruined my confidence.
I’m struggling within my own relationship with my partner.
It’s destroyed me.” After his arrest, Biggs was interviewed by police officers, during which he confessed to sexually assaulting and raping the victim while she was unconscious.
