VICTOR ALDRIDGE CROWDON SEX OFFENDER CONVICTED OF CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES
In a significant legal development, Victor Aldridge, a 65-year-old former mechanic residing on Gibsons Hill in Croydon, has been found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offences committed against a young girl. The conviction came after a retrial held at Kingston Crown Court, where the jury deliberated and reached a verdict on Friday, 17th February, 2017.
Prior to this, Aldridge had been convicted in 2013 of similar charges, but he appealed the original verdict.
The retrial was initiated to reassess the evidence and allegations, which ultimately resulted in a guilty verdict.
The court heard that the victim, a girl under the age of 14, was subjected to multiple acts of indecent assault by Aldridge.
The first incident reportedly occurred when the girl was just seven years old, marking the beginning of a prolonged period of abuse that spanned several years.
During the proceedings, prosecutors detailed the disturbing nature of the offences, emphasizing the repeated and ongoing abuse inflicted upon the young girl.
In addition to the physical assaults, authorities discovered indecent images of children stored on Aldridge’s computer.
However, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) chose not to pursue charges related to the possession and creation of these images, citing the presence of other individuals who also used the device, complicating the evidence.
Following the guilty verdict, Aldridge was sentenced to a total of eight years in prison.
The judge clarified that Aldridge would serve half of this sentence behind bars, with the remaining period to be served in the community under supervision, on licence.
Furthermore, the court imposed strict conditions, including a prohibition on any unsupervised contact with female children under the age of 16.
Aldridge was also ordered to comply with a Sexual Offences Prevention Order and will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions.
This case underscores the importance of vigilant law enforcement and judicial processes in protecting vulnerable children from predators like Victor Aldridge, whose actions have caused significant harm and distress to his young victim and the community at large.
