METHIL DOMESTIC ABUSER TONY WISHART JAILED FOR 4 YEARS
A Methil man who subjected his partner to a sustained campaign of violence, intimidation and control has been jailed for four years after a jury found him guilty of domestic abuse offences.Tony William Stevie Wishart, 36, of Bowling Green Street, Methil, was sentenced at the High Court in Livingston on 15 July 2026.
Court paperwork confirms he was convicted of offences under the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018, including offending while on bail, with a statutory aggravation involving a child.
An indefinite Non-Harassment Order was also imposed, banning him from contacting his victim.
The survivor has now spoken publicly about the ordeal she endured, describing a relationship that she says turned from romance into a nightmare.
She explained that she met Wishart through a mutual friend in 2023 and initially believed he was "kind and genuine." Instead, she says she found herself trapped in an abusive relationship where she was isolated, controlled and repeatedly assaulted.
According to her statement, she was forbidden from seeing friends and family, denied access to her own bank card and made to feel like "a slave" in her own home.
She alleges that the abuse became relentless.
"I was spoken to horribly every day.
I couldn't breathe the wrong way.
I was getting called names daily." She says the violence escalated into repeated physical attacks.
"I was hit, kicked and punched on many occasions.
I was thrown around a hotel room by my hair.
I was strangled one night to the point I couldn't breathe." Her greatest fear, she said, was that her son would discover her dead the following morning.
She also described abuse taking place in front of her children, alleging that Wishart screamed at her and spat in her face while they watched.
Eventually, after secretly confiding in relatives while Wishart was at work, her family helped her escape the relationship.
Wishart was remanded into custody in November 2024, where he remained until the trial.
The survivor told how she spent two emotional days giving evidence before a jury.
"Shaking and crying the whole time knowing he was in that same room as me, but I did it and I won.
I got my power back." Although Wishart received a four-year prison sentence, she noted that because of the time he has already spent on remand, he is expected to be released within months.
She said no sentence could ever undo the harm caused.
"No time will ever be enough for the damage caused, but I'm glad he isn't just getting to walk away from this." She also praised the support she received from her family, friends and Women's Aid throughout the case, adding that she has since rebuilt her life with a partner who makes her feel safe and valued.
As part of Wishart's sentence, the High Court also imposed an indefinite Non-Harassment Order, meaning any future breach could amount to a further criminal offence.
