METHILHILL MAN ALAN MORELAND ADMITS VICIOUSLY ASSAULTING 11 YEAR OLD CHILD

A Fife man has admitted repeatedly hitting his 11-year-old child on the head and body during a ferocious attack that left the young boy seriously injured and in a state of shock.

Alan Moreland appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court yesterday when he admitted one charge of assault, which took place on October 30 2017.

The 32-year-old, of Ivy Grove in Methilhill, seized the child by the body before hitting the youngster.

Moreland pled not guilty to a second charge of acting in a threatening and abusive manner on the same date, which was accepted by the Crown.

Defence solicitor Robert Hunter urged the court to consider background reports and sentence was deferred until January 15.

During sentencing Moreland was sentenced to a community payback order.
