TONY SEED FROM MIDDLESBROUGH JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST UNDERAGE GIRL
In a case that has shocked the Middlesbrough community, Tony Seed, a 23-year-old man from Penrith Road, Berwick Hills, was sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of grooming and sexually exploiting a young girl who was under the age of consent.The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of manipulation, violence, and control that Seed exerted over the vulnerable teenager.
According to the evidence presented at Teesside Crown Court, Seed engaged in sexual activity with the girl, who was significantly younger and believed she was in love with him.
The court heard that the girl, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, initially consented to their encounters, but it later became clear that she was not legally old enough to make such decisions.
As the case unfolded, it was revealed that Seed's behavior grew increasingly abusive and aggressive.
Witnesses described instances where Seed became physically violent, including an incident where he grabbed the girl by the throat and pinned her against a wall.
On another occasion, he assaulted her by kicking and punching her, forcing her to the ground.
During this assault, Seed reportedly threatened to rape her if she refused to have sex with him, a clear indication of his coercive tactics.
The court was told that Seed only ceased his violent conduct when police were called to the scene.
Interestingly, the crimes against the girl took place several years prior, but no charges were initially pressed.
It was only in 2015 that Seed himself confessed to the police, raising suspicions that he was about to be reported.
Fearing legal repercussions, Seed voluntarily approached Middlesbrough police station and disclosed his involvement.
However, during police interviews, he remained silent and denied any sexual activity with the girl.
The young woman endured months of anxiety, fear, and sleepless nights, worried about the prospect of giving evidence in court.
Her ordeal culminated when Seed finally pleaded guilty on the day of his trial.
He admitted to two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child and one count of assault with intent to rape.
His criminal record also includes a previous conviction for assault.
During the sentencing hearing, Yvonne Taylor, representing Seed, expressed remorse on his behalf.
She stated, “Anthony Seed is extremely remorseful for his actions.
And through me today he would ask that his sincere apologies be relayed to the young woman.
He hangs his head in shame.” Taylor also highlighted that Seed had developed a closer relationship with his mother since the crimes came to light, and she supported him through his ordeal.
She noted that Seed had become isolated, avoiding negative influences and rarely leaving his home.
Judge Simon Bourne-Arton QC, the Recorder of Middlesbrough, delivered a stern verdict, emphasizing the gravity of Seed’s actions.
“You took advantage of that young person.
She was at the time vulnerable.
She mistakenly believed she was in love with you, and you exploited that trust,” the judge stated.
He condemned Seed for grooming the girl, exposing her to alcohol, and subjecting her to controlling and violent behavior.
As part of his sentence, Seed was handed a six-year prison term.
Additionally, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, which prohibits him from having any contact with the young woman or other girls under 16.
He will also be placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
The court left two charges of rape unresolved on the court record, indicating ongoing concerns about the full extent of Seed’s misconduct.
