TOBIAS CLARKE'S CRIMINAL BACKGROUND AND ATTACK IN THE CITY
Tobias Clarke is a violent offender with a history of 12 convictions for battery, mostly involving former partners.
He assaulted Tia Bryan, a woman he met through Tinder, resulting in severe injuries such as bitten chunks from her back, being beaten with her own mobile phone, and being slammed into a wardrobe during a month-long nightmare.
Despite his criminal record, Clarke received a suspended prison sentence, which permitted him to continue using dating apps.
As a condition, he was subjected to a 12-hour curfew and electronic monitoring.
Tia Bryan expressed her concerns, stating, "I one hundred per cent would not have met him if background checks were used," during her appeal for enhanced safety protocols on dating platforms.
She added, "I would do anything to save anyone from my situation.
I think background checks would be the best thing for every single dating site." The incident took place in July 2019, shortly after Clarke's mugshot appeared on social media as part of a police investigation into a previous serious assault.
