TIMOTHY LEE FROM STAINES JAILED FOR CHILD INDECENCY VIDEOS IN SURREY

In October 2005, a disturbing case unfolded involving Timothy Lee, a man residing in Staines, Surrey, who was ultimately sentenced to six and a half months in prison for his involvement in creating and storing indecent video clips of children. The case was brought to light during a court hearing at Guildford Crown Court, where it was revealed that Lee, aged 45, had used his position as a senior IT field engineer with Surrey Police to facilitate his illicit activities.

Lee's role at Surrey Police involved monitoring officers' computer activity to detect any inappropriate or illegal behavior. However, the court heard how Lee exploited his access to police computer systems to store and possibly produce indecent videos. The evidence presented included 11 counts of taking indecent photographs of children, which Lee admitted to during the proceedings. Additionally, he pleaded guilty to a charge of being a public nuisance.

The court was informed that Lee had filmed women across a broad age spectrum, ranging from young girls as young as eight to elderly women in their early 70s. The disturbing nature of his actions was underscored by the fact that Lee had previously been involved in activities with children, although he was living elsewhere when he made the videos. Police raids on his residence uncovered footage in which Lee was seen commenting on his own videos, suggesting a level of personal engagement and possibly deriving pleasure from his actions.

It was also disclosed that Lee had served as a special constable with the Metropolitan Police before joining Surrey Police, where he later took up his IT role at the force’s headquarters. His resignation from the police force came in April of the same year, just prior to his arrest.

During sentencing, Judge John Bull condemned Lee’s conduct, describing the offences as “disgusting” and carried out in a “grubby, underhand way.” The judge pointed out that Lee’s comments while filming clearly indicated a sexual motive behind his actions. As part of his punishment, Lee was ordered to be banned from working with children for life and was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of ten years.
