TIMOTHY J ROSS, FORMER ISLE OF WIGHT PARAMEDIC, STRUCK OFF AFTER CHILD PORN AND ANIMAL SEX OFFENCE CONVICTIONS
A former Isle of Wight paramedic, Timothy J Ross, known as Tim, has been removed from the medical register following his conviction for making indecent photographs of children and possessing an extreme pornographic image. The Health & Care Professions Tribunal Service (HCPTS) made the decision this week, citing concerns that his fitness to practise is impaired on public protection grounds.
Tim served with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service starting in 1997, then worked as a flying paramedic with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance for four years.
He later worked for South Central Ambulance Service and also spent some time working in Queensland, Australia.
He was widely recognized on the Isle of Wight for his efforts in fundraising and maintained connections with a local sailing training company and a lifeboat station.
Additionally, Tim worked at Solent Middle School in Cowes.
In August last year, at Bournemouth Crown Court, Tim was convicted of three counts of making indecent images or pseudo-photographs of a child and one count of possessing extreme pornographic images involving acts of intercourse or oral sex with a dead or alive animal.
He was sentenced in September to a two-year community order, which included 25 days of rehabilitation activity.
Furthermore, he was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years and was required to sign the sex offender register for five years.
During the tribunal hearing conducted via video link on Tuesday, it was revealed that police had received information suggesting Tim showed a strong interest in young boys.
Police visited his home, seized his computer equipment, and he gave a no comment interview.
He claimed he did not know where the images—of boys aged six to ten—had come from and that he had not seen them before.
On February 14, 2019, just after his interview, Hampshire Constabulary referred the matter to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
On April 25, Ross informed the HCPC that he intended to retire on May 7, with no plans to return to work as a paramedic.
He was formally charged on June 14, 2019, and pleaded guilty in court on August 8.
The HCPTS Panel concluded that Timothy J Ross’s fitness to practise remains impaired, especially concerning public protection.
They highlighted the gross abuse of trust involved in exploiting children and therefore decided to strike him from the medical register.
On December 7, 2019, Ross was also barred from the Children’s List and the Adults’ List by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
