MAN JAILED FOR STALKING CHIEF CONSTABLE
A man has received a prison sentence for stalking the Chief Constable of Sussex and has been subject to an indefinite restraining order.Jason Nicholls, aged 55, was given a sentence of 15 weeks after engaging in a sustained campaign on social media, along with email and phone communications.
He produced a wanted poster that displayed a photograph of Jo Shiner, the senior officer in Sussex Police, accusing her of misconduct related to policing.
Residing on the Isle of Wight, Nicholls also set up a fake Twitter account under her name and shared a series of images, videos, and abusive messages online.
In a prior court hearing, he pleaded guilty to stalking the police chief from October 2022 through August 2024.
Additionally, Nicholls admitted to breaching two bail conditions by emailing the police, and he made unfounded allegations of corruption and misconduct while sending abusive messages to the chief constable, as revealed during proceedings at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.
The court was informed that Nicholls, living on Grange Road in East Cowes, disregarded previous court orders and showed disrespect towards individuals and their property.
During a hearing last year, Nicholls explained that his actions were driven by social media addiction and issued an apology to Chief Constable Shiner.
