ISLE OF WIGHT MAN DANIEL SWEET ACCUSED OF ANIMAL CRUELTY AS DOGS ARE SEIZED IN APPALLING CONDITIONS
Four dogs belonging to an Isle of Wight man named Daniel Sweet have been seized after being found living in terrible conditions, including one so hungry that it was compelled to eat its own faeces to survive.Sweet, aged 34 and of no fixed domicile, was scheduled to appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on August 29 but did not attend.
The hearing was about an application under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 to remove his four dogs—Bluey, Junior, Tyson, and Winston.
Sweet had earlier been given the chance to explain why he should keep the dogs but refused to voluntarily give up two of them.
The court was shown evidence that one dog, Tyson, was very thin, suffering from dental disease, cataracts, and weak hind legs, and had been eating faeces.
The other dogs showed signs of suffering as well.
The animals were taken to Carisbrooke Vets before being placed in RSPCA care, and all four are now considered fit for rehoming.
The judge ordered the animals to be transferred permanently to the RSPCA, who confirmed their health has improved since their rescue.
