THOMAS ULLAH SENTENCED AFTER BRUTAL RAPE IN BRADFORD
A 22-year-old man named Thomas Ullah has been sentenced to five years and four months in prison for a horrific assault carried out in Bradford. The incident involved Ullah, who was under the influence of drugs at the time, gaining entry into the home of a 63-year-old woman under false pretenses and subjecting her to a degrading and violent rape.
Ullah was visibly distressed as he sat in Bradford Crown Court, with his head bowed and hands covering his face as his legal counsel described the assault as particularly awful, degrading, and deeply upsetting.
Ullah, whose address is listed as Fairhaven Green, Idle, Bradford, pleaded guilty to the crime of rape, which occurred on August 8.
This assault happened just two weeks after Ullah was released from a 15-month incarceration for supplying Class A drugs.
The court heard how the victim, who was not previously known to Ullah, was vulnerable and living alone.
She suffers from depression and was asleep at home after watching television when Ullah knocked on her door at approximately 1:15 in the early morning hours.
Prosecutor Richard Smith provided additional context, stating that Ullah was not part of a local group of youths who frequently used her Bradford residence to consume cannabis, eat her food, take her money, and sleep over uninvited.
Although Ullah was not among these individuals, he was known to have friends within that circle.
The victim’s home was described as a place where she felt unsafe and exploited.
It was revealed during the court proceedings that Ullah had previously exposed himself in front of surveillance cameras while out in Bradford, signaling a pattern of reckless and inappropriate behavior.
On the night of the assault, Ullah approached the woman, claiming to be called Joe, and deceived her into believing that a man she knew was on his way to visit her.
He also claimed that he had taken drugs such as cocaine and M-cat, and that he had just been released from prison.
Ullah then forcibly entered her home by dragging her into the hallway, kicking open her bedroom door, and throwing her inside.
The court was told that he proceeded to strip her of her clothing and raped her on her bed while threatening her with words like, “Scream bitch and you’re dead.” The victim was left shaken and terrified after the attack, describing her feelings to the police as feeling like “a piece of scum.” She had visible bruises on her arms and legs, which were linked to Ullah through DNA evidence.
His defense lawyer, Jayne Beckett, acknowledged that Ullah had been under the influence of a cocktail of drugs and alcohol at the time.
She expressed that he was truly sickened and struggling to come to terms with what he had done.
Despite Ullah’s remorse, the judge, Mr.
Justice David Hatton QC, stressed the profound impact the crime had on the victim, noting that her life would never be the same after her ordeal.
Following the sentencing, Detective Inspector Ian Lawrance from West Yorkshire Police’s Operation Topaz, the unit responsible for the rape investigation, commented on the case.
He highlighted that Ullah had exploited a vulnerable member of the community in the most terrible way, reaching a depth of depravity with his actions.
Lawrance also expressed satisfaction that Ullah would now spend a significant period incarcerated.
The victim, who was present in court to hear the verdict, shared her feelings of despair and disappointment that the sentence was not longer, reflecting her ongoing distress over the assault and its aftermath.
