ISLE OF WIGHT MAN THOMAS TOWN SENTENCED AFTER PAEDOPHILE HUNTING TEAM CATCH HIM IN PORTSMOUTH
In August 2020, Thomas Town, a worker at McDonald's from the Isle of Wight, found himself at the center of a serious criminal case after being caught by a dedicated paedophile hunting team. The incident unfolded when Town engaged in online communications with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl, but in reality, he was speaking to an adult member of a vigilant online group dedicated to catching predators.
Town initiated contact by messaging the decoy profile, falsely claiming to be 30 years old.
Over the course of their interactions, he sent hundreds of sexually explicit messages, revealing his intentions and engaging in inappropriate conversations.
The predator asked the decoy if she touched herself and requested indecent images, further escalating his inappropriate behavior.
He also sent photographs of his wife’s vibrators and even video called the decoy while masturbating, until he ejaculated during the call.
At one point, Town attempted to discourage the decoy from revealing their interactions, warning her that their activities could lead to legal trouble because what he was doing was illegal.
Despite these warnings, the predator continued his attempts to engage the decoy in sexual communication.
In a disturbing turn, Town encouraged the decoy to masturbate and expressed concern about the potential consequences of their actions, citing his age and the risk of police involvement if she disclosed what had transpired.
It is important to note that the decoy was not a minor but an adult member of a paedophile hunting team, who posed online as a child to trap individuals like Town.
Once the team gathered sufficient evidence, they handed it over to the police, leading to Town’s arrest.
The case was brought before Portsmouth Crown Court, where he faced multiple charges, including attempting to cause or incite a child aged 13-15 to engage in sexual activity, attempting to engage in sexual activity in the presence of a child, and attempting to communicate sexually with a child.
During the court proceedings, the judge sentenced Town to a 24-month community order.
As part of his punishment, he was ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work and attend a sexual offending rehabilitation program.
Additionally, Town is required to register as a sex offender for a period of five years, reflecting the severity of his actions and the ongoing risk he poses.
