THOMAS LOW CAUGHT IN BRADFORD FOR FOOT FETISH AT ASDA IN SHIPLEY
In a dramatic incident that unfolded in the town of Shipley, Bradford, a man identified as Thomas Low was apprehended by a dedicated paedophile hunting team in front of a crowd at an Asda supermarket.The court proceedings revealed that Low, aged 24 and formerly residing in Wrose, Bradford, believed he was about to meet a 14-year-old boy named Ben for sexual activity.
However, the meeting was part of an undercover operation, and Low was swiftly confronted and arrested by the vigilant online hunters.
Following his arrest, social media images of Low were circulated by the paedophile hunters, which led to a large mob gathering outside his residence.
Reports indicated that approximately a hundred people assembled, expressing their outrage and demanding justice.
The situation was so intense that Low was unable to attend court hearings on multiple occasions, citing fears for his safety due to the hostile public reaction.
Consequently, he was remanded into custody at a different location before the sentencing.
During the court session, it was established that Low had pleaded guilty to attempting to communicate with a minor, a 14-year-old boy, with the intent to incite sexual activity.
The communication took place between November 30 and December 3, 2017.
Prosecutor Jayne Beckett detailed that Low had engaged with an online persona, “Ben,” on a gay dating site intended for adults only.
The conversation revealed that “Ben” claimed to be 14, and Low, responding as “Tom,” aged 23, expressed a particular interest in feet and made sexual suggestions.
The conversation escalated when Low sent a photograph of his genitals to the minor, and they arranged to meet at the Asda supermarket at 6 pm on December 3, 2017.
After Low was detained by the paedophile hunters and the police were called, authorities seized his phone.
It was discovered that Low had begun deleting messages, prompting further investigation.
The scene outside the supermarket was marked by a crowd that cheered loudly when police arrived to take Low into custody.
The court heard that Low had made a deliberate effort to target a young person via the internet, raising serious concerns about his intentions.
Low’s legal representative, Christopher Styles, informed the court that his client had been in custody since admitting to the offence on January 30 of the current year.
He described Low’s time in prison on remand as extremely challenging, noting that Low had self-harmed and was placed under suicide watch.
The court ultimately sentenced Low to a two-year community order, requiring him to participate in the Sex Offender Treatment Programme and complete a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.
Additionally, Low was subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years and was ordered to register as a sex offender for the same duration.
Judge Colin Burn commented that Low had disclosed to his probation officer an interest in teenage boys, although no actual harm had been caused to any child.
The judge emphasized that the community’s reaction, which included inappropriate expressions of outrage, was not lawful.
He explained that the community order was deemed a more constructive approach than a short custodial sentence, aiming to facilitate rehabilitation rather than solely punishment.
