THOMAS HAMMERSLEY AND HIS HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN CORNWALL

Thomas Hammersley, a 28-year-old convicted paedophile from Park Lane in Camborne, Cornwall, has been involved in the ongoing possession and distribution of indecent images of children despite prior convictions.

His latest legal case brought to light disturbing details about his repeated offending behavior and the efforts made by the legal system to protect his identity from the media, an attempt that ultimately was unsuccessful.

Hammersley's court appearance occurred at Truro Crown Court, where he faced multiple charges relating to the possession of indecent images of children.

During the proceedings, Hammersley sought to have his identity concealed from the press and public to shield his family from potential harm.

The court dismissed his application, aligning with the principles of open justice despite the sympathy expressed by Judge Simon Carr for Hammersley’s family.

Prosecutor Ryan Murray outlined the police investigation that led to Hammersley’s arrest.

In July of 2020, authorities conducted a raid on Hammersley's residence following a tip-off from the National Crime Agency (NCA).

The tip suggested that Hammersley's IP address and email account were involved in uploading illegal material to a file-sharing platform, with search terms clearly indicative of child abuse imagery.

During the search, law enforcement officers seized numerous devices belonging to Hammersley.

Analysis revealed that these devices contained a significant collection of illegal content.

In total, authorities found that Hammersley possessed 107 images classified as Category A (the most severe), along with a single video.

Additionally, there were 48 images categorized as B, and 81 images labeled as C.

Many of these files were inaccessible due to encryption or damage.

The illegal material had been accessed over a span of approximately two years, and the victims depicted ranged in age from six to twelve years old.

Initially, Hammersley denied any involvement in possessing or sharing the indecent images.

However, he later admitted to the offences, justifying his actions by claiming that his offending was linked to drug use.

He explained before the court that he would delete the material after being under the influence but would often repeat his actions when intoxicated.

Hammersley's history of similar criminal behavior was highlighted in court.

In 2015, he was convicted of comparable offences and received a suspended sentence along with a sexual harm prevention order.

Despite these previous consequences, Hammersley continued his illegal behavior, which the court described as a repeated and persistent violation.

Representing himself at the sentencing, Hammersley reiterated his drug-related explanations and suggested that his actions were impulsive, claiming awareness only after the fact.

Nonetheless, Judge Simon Carr emphasized the severity of the crimes, stating that the nature and duration of the illegal downloads, along with the young age of the victims, demonstrated a troubling pattern of behavior.

In delivering the sentence, Judge Carr conveyed his disappointment and condemnation of Hammersley's repeated offending.

He noted that the evidence from the NCA raid included multiple devices containing indecent images of children, including Category A images and at least one video.

The judge made it clear that this was a serious and ongoing problem.

Hammersley's actions were deemed to stem from a sexual interest in children, contradicting his attempts to minimize responsibility by blaming drug use.

His repeated violations, despite prior convictions and efforts at rehabilitation, led to a sentence of two years imprisonment.

This case underscores the ongoing issues surrounding child abuse material possession in Cornwall and highlights the importance of law enforcement efforts to combat such reprehensible crimes.
