TELFORD PAEDOPHILE THOMAS COX CAUGHT WITH UNDERAGE SEX CARTOONS AND ANIMAL PORN AVOIDS JAIL
In May 2022, a disturbing case emerged involving Thomas Cox, a 25-year-old resident of Telford, who was found to possess a large collection of illegal and highly disturbing images on his electronic devices. The police investigation was initiated after a raid on Cox's mother’s home, during which authorities seized multiple devices, including a tower computer, a USB stick, and an external hard drive.
During the search, law enforcement officials discovered that Cox had downloaded software designed to access the dark web, a hidden part of the internet often associated with illicit activities.
Further examination of his devices revealed that he had been actively searching for and storing indecent images of children over a period of five years.
The collection included nearly 1,000 images, some depicting adult men and women engaged in sexual acts with children, as well as cartoons illustrating children being sexually abused.
Shockingly, among the images was a disturbing depiction of a sex act involving a child and a family dog.
When questioned by police, Cox reportedly expressed a sense of relief at being caught, suggesting that he saw his apprehension as an opportunity to confront his problematic behavior.
His responses during the interview indicated a level of awareness about the severity of his actions.
Thomas Cox, who resides at Purbeck Dale, Dawley, Telford, faced multiple charges in connection with his possession and creation of illegal images.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of making an indecent photograph of a child, one count of possessing a prohibited image of a child, and one count of possessing and viewing an extreme pornographic image involving an animal.
In a sentencing hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court, Judge Anthony Lowe delivered a verdict that, while recognizing the gravity of Cox’s offenses, resulted in a relatively lenient sentence.
Cox was sentenced to 11 months in prison, but this sentence was suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed another offense within that period.
Judge Lowe addressed Cox directly, emphasizing the real harm caused by his actions.
He stated, “These are real children who have had sexual abuse carried out on them.
They are not computer-generated images.
For whatever reason, you have a sexual interest in children.
That is not going to go away.
Probation will do what they can to give you strategies in dealing with that fact.
The only person who can control the urges is you.” The judge further warned Cox about the dangers of his behavior, comparing it to addiction, and underscored the importance of personal responsibility.
Additionally, Cox was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid community work and attend 55 days of rehabilitation activities aimed at addressing his issues.
Furthermore, Cox was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of 10 years, a measure intended to monitor and prevent further offenses.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and judicial authorities to combat the distribution and possession of illegal and harmful material involving minors and animals in the Telford area.
