Terrence Merryfield

Southport Sexual Abuser

March 2020 Pervert has ‘uncontrolled sexual impulses and desires for children’ A pervert with uncontrolled sexual desires for young girls has been jailed for eight years. Terrence Merryfield had online discussions about having sex with two young girls – not realising he was actually talking to an adult decoy called Caz Solo Elizabeth from the online paedophile hunting community The decoy handed the case over to police who then took over. Merryfield then contacted a undercover police officer to whom he sent indecent child sexual images. And 38-year-old Merryfield committed the offences while subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order imposed when he was jailed for eight months in August 2016 for downloading more than 1,000 indecent images. Liverpool Crown Court heard that the Southport man had co-operated with his post-release licence “but not enough work has been done about his entrenched and determined desire and sexual interest in young female girls,” said Martine Snowdon, defending. Putting the defendant back behind bars Judge David Aubrey, QC said, “In my judgement this is a deeply disturbing case and your behaviour over a number of years is again disturbing. “In my judgement you have uncontrolled aspirations and impulses and desires to engage in sexual activity with children under 13 and in particular extremely young children.’ He ruled that Merryfield, who appeared via video link, is “an offender of particular concern” and imposed a year extended licence. The defendant will not be automatically released after serving his sentence and it will be up the Parole Board when he is freed. Iain Criddle, prosecuting, told how Merryfield sent a Cheshire police decoy officer five images in August 2018 after messaging her on a messaging service using the name Skooley Lover. He was arrested at his home, then in Albert Road, Southport but was released ‘under investigation’ and went on to commit the other offences. Again he contacted a man called ‘Jim’, who was actually an officer with the South West Regional Crime Unit. The officer pretended he had a six-year-old daughter and they discussed Merryfield having sexual activity with her and also raping her. Merryfield went on to contact a female decoy officer who also claimed to have a six-yer-old daughter and he asked if she “would like to see her daughter having fun with a guy?” Merryfield, of Talbot Road, Southport, pleaded guilty to 16 offences involving encouraging the commission of child rape and sexual activity; distributing indecent images and breaching the ten year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Judge Aubrey ordered him to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life and substituted a life time Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
