TERENCE EASDON FROM BOLTON AND EDINBURGH SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Bolton and Edinburgh, Terence Easdon, a 46-year-old man, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison after being found guilty of multiple counts of sexually abusing a nine-year-old girl.The court heard that Easdon, who previously resided in Deane, Bolton, engaged in a pattern of inappropriate and predatory behavior over a span of two years, targeting the young girl and subjecting her to repeated sexual assaults.
According to the prosecution, Charlotte Crangle, Easdon's actions included touching and stroking the girl over her clothing, as well as making persistent and unwelcome advances.
He also sent her inappropriate messages via Facebook, claiming that these messages were intended to test her reactions to similar messages that might be sent by others.
This behavior was part of a disturbing pattern that culminated in the girl, then aged 11, finally resisting his advances by kicking out at him during an incident in November 2014.
Her resistance was heard by another child, which ultimately led to Easdon's apprehension.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Easdon had moved to Shandwick Place in Edinburgh while he was on bail for the offences.
His defense, represented by Kimberley Morton, stated that Easdon has since sought help from a psychotherapist and expressed deep remorse for his actions.
Morton emphasized that her client does not attempt to minimize his offending and that he is genuinely remorseful.
She also noted that Easdon does not intend to return to Bolton and that he struggles to fully understand his behavior but recognizes the serious harm caused.
Judge Elliot Knopf, presiding over the case, sentenced Easdon to the maximum term of three and a half years in prison.
The judge highlighted the vulnerability of the young girl, noting that she was so confused and disturbed by the abuse that she did not confide in her mother or friends at the time.
The judge also pointed out that the only reason the abuse did not escalate further was because Easdon was caught in time.
In his remarks, Judge Knopf condemned Easdon for exploiting every opportunity to satisfy his desires and develop the situation to his advantage.
In addition to the prison sentence, Easdon was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, ensuring ongoing restrictions and monitoring to protect the public from further harm.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the devastating impact of child sexual abuse in communities across Bolton and Edinburgh.
