Adding to the disturbing narrative, Wainman’s former partner, Joanne—whose name has been changed to protect her identity—shared harrowing details about her own experiences with him.
She revealed that Wainman was not only violent and abusive towards her, leaving her with broken bones and mental health issues, but also attempted to take his own life on multiple occasions.
Joanne claimed that she witnessed Wainman’s two suicide attempts, which occurred in a public park, where he tried to slit his own throat twice.
She expressed a mixture of regret and concern, stating that she regrets his failed attempts but believes he might try again while incarcerated.
Joanne described Wainman as a ‘monster’ who had pushed her to the brink of a nervous breakdown.
She recounted his violent and bullying nature, describing him as a ‘crackpot’ who, despite his mental instability, seemed to be fully aware of his actions.
Her anger and resentment towards him were palpable, and she openly admitted that she would have liked to kill him herself.
Joanne also expressed her hope that Wainman might take his own life, saying, “I’d be over the moon if he topped himself.
Then again, I’d like to see him suffer.” Her account detailed a relationship that began through a mutual friend but quickly devolved into a cycle of violence and control.
Joanne recounted being physically assaulted—hit, kicked, and even head-butted—and once having a knife held to her throat.
She suffered a broken nose and black eyes as a result of his brutality.
Wainman’s controlling behavior extended to self-harm; Joanne claimed that he would harm himself when she attempted to leave, including slitting his wrists and setting himself on fire, even setting himself alight in the back of a police car using a lighter.
Joanne described living in constant fear of Wainman, especially during a period when her grandmother died.
She recounted an incident where Wainman accused her of smelling as if she had been sexually active and threatened her with a knife.
Since his incarceration, Joanne said she no longer fears him and feels relief knowing he is in prison where he cannot harm her.
Among Wainman’s victims was an 11-year-old girl who was raped by him and remains psychologically scarred.
It was only last year that she confided in her boyfriend about the abuse, leading to Wainman’s arrest.
The victim described her ordeal as painful, frightening, and ongoing in its emotional impact.
She expressed relief that Wainman was finally punished, stating, “The abuse was regular, painful and scary.
And afterwards he was smiling, as if it was a bit of fun.
I always believed he was going to get away with it.
I always believed no-one would believe me.
I’m glad he’s been punished.” Another young girl, who was 12 when the abuse began, shared her suffering from anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
She explained that her childhood was robbed from her, and she struggled to concentrate at school.
Her dreams of becoming a nurse were shattered by the trauma.
She admitted to blocking out much of what happened but remembered feeling terrified and a heavy sensation in her chest.
In her witness statement, she said that Wainman’s actions robbed her of her childhood, emphasizing the profound and lasting damage caused by his crimes.
