PAIGTON MAN STEVEN WRIGHT CONFESSES TO POLICE CLAIMING HE'S A PAEDOPHILE

In a highly unusual turn of events in September 2016, Steven Wright, a resident of Paignton, voluntarily approached local law enforcement authorities and explicitly declared his own status as a paedophile. This startling admission led him to walk into a police station and demand that he be detained, citing his own admission of guilt.

Wright, aged 33, appeared before magistrates in Torquay where he confessed to engaging in sexual contact with a child and inciting sexual activity involving a minor. His appearance in court was marked by his candid admission, which prompted immediate legal proceedings. The magistrates decided to remand him into custody until his sentencing, scheduled for October, citing concerns for both his safety and that of the public.

Prosecutor Philip Sewell highlighted the case's peculiarity, noting that no formal complaint had been lodged against Wright prior to his police station visit. Instead, Wright voluntarily disclosed that he had molested a 10-year-old girl, asserting his own status as a paedophile. Sewell emphasized the potential risk Wright posed, stating, "He said he was a paedophile. He is a potential risk to himself and to others."

Defense attorney Alasdair James acknowledged the unusual circumstances, stating that there would be no application for bail. He explained that Wright had been very clear about his intentions and had expressed a desire to plead guilty at the earliest opportunity, despite the caution exercised by his legal team.

Following the hearing, magistrates ordered a pre-sentence report to be prepared and transferred the case to Exeter Crown Court for sentencing. Wright, whose address is listed as Garfield Road in Paignton, was also instructed to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register. He remains in custody until his scheduled court appearance on October 20, 2016.
