BRADFORD SEX OFFENDER STEVEN SHOESMITH SENTENCED FOR ABUSING 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a case that has shocked the Bradford community, Steven Shoesmith, a man with a long history of criminal activity, was convicted of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl. The incident occurred nearly two years ago, during a period when Shoesmith was on prison licence for an unrelated offence, highlighting the ongoing issues surrounding his criminal behavior.
Despite denying the allegations, Shoesmith, who has no fixed address and has previously served lengthy sentences for burglary and vehicle-related crimes, was found guilty by a jury at Bradford Crown Court.
His criminal record dates back to when he was just ten years old, illustrating a troubling pattern of offending that has persisted over many years.
The court heard that Shoesmith took advantage of the girl’s inexperience and vulnerability.
The offence took place at a house in Bradford, where both Shoesmith and the girl were staying at the time.
According to court proceedings, Shoesmith entered the bedroom where the girl was sleeping, removed his clothing, and proceeded to molest her.
The assault was carried out in a moment of opportunity, with Shoesmith exploiting her trust and youth.
Following the incident, the girl returned home visibly distressed.
Her mother immediately noticed her upset demeanor and, upon questioning her, became aware that something was seriously wrong.
The mother then contacted the police, leading to Shoesmith’s arrest and subsequent trial.
Judge Roger Thomas QC, the Recorder of Bradford, sentenced Shoesmith to three years in prison for the sexual assault.
The judge emphasized the gravity of the offence and the breach of trust involved, condemning Shoesmith’s actions as a clear abuse of his position and the girl’s innocence.
Since his conviction, Shoesmith has been released from custody as of July 2015, after serving part of his sentence.
His case remains a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and protective measures for vulnerable young individuals in Bradford and beyond.
