TELFORD LOTTERY WINNER STEVEN KITCHEN SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL FETISH MESSAGES
In July 2016, Steven Kitchen, a man from Telford, was sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty of sending disturbing and fetish-related messages to a young girl and her sister.Kitchen, who gained notoriety after winning £270,000 in a lottery back in 1989, became the subject of a criminal investigation following reports of his inappropriate communications.
Kitchen’s actions were described as “bizarre” by the court, with evidence revealing that he had bombarded the girl with numerous messages, some of which involved disturbing requests such as dressing in leather and killing mice.
He even promised to take her shopping if she complied with his unusual demands.
The messages extended beyond the girl to her sister, indicating a pattern of predatory behavior.
The court heard that the victims had known Kitchen for several years, which added a layer of concern regarding his familiarity and potential grooming.
Prosecutor Mr.
Trevor Meegan explained that Kitchen’s fascination appeared to be rooted in a sexual fetish involving leather attire and the killing of animals, specifically mice.
The messages he sent were not only sexual in nature but also included explicit references to hunting and animal cruelty.
Further investigation led police to search Kitchen’s residence, where they discovered leather items including boots, a waistcoat, and a size six leather dress.
These items seemed to be connected to his sexual interests, and Kitchen himself admitted that he derived arousal from discussing hunting and related activities with girls.
One of the victims provided a victim impact statement, describing how Kitchen’s messages made her feel physically sick and caused her to feel “skin crawl.” She expressed that his requests for her to kill mice for his sexual gratification were deeply disturbing.
During the court proceedings, Kitchen pleaded guilty to two charges of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
His defense lawyer, Mr.
Simon Warlock, explained that Kitchen’s financial situation was dire, having squandered his lottery winnings over eight years due to a long-standing drug addiction.
Warlock described Kitchen as a lonely man with no close relationships or family ties, acknowledging the bizarre nature of his behavior.
Judge Jim Tindal addressed Kitchen directly, describing him as a “troubling individual” with the potential to be dangerous.
The judge noted that although Kitchen may have once been seen as a popular figure in the community, his darker tendencies had now come to light.
The court emphasized the seriousness of his actions and the risk they posed, ultimately sentencing him to three years in prison for his disturbing conduct involving minors and his sexual fetishes.
