In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Wrexham and beyond, Steven Hankers, aged 32, of Melyd Avenue in Johnstown, Wrexham, has been exposed for his heinous activities involving the illegal hacking of private home security cameras. His actions allowed him to secretly record innocent individuals, including children and couples engaged in intimate moments, without their knowledge or consent.
Investigations revealed that Hankers had amassed a staggering collection of over 4,000 video clips, all of which he had saved from the compromised cameras he had infiltrated.
These recordings spanned across multiple countries, including the United Kingdom, various European nations, and the United States.
The footage included scenes of children undressing and adults engaging in sexual acts, captured covertly through the hacked devices.
The criminal activities of Hankers came to light during police inquiries into allegations that he had been inciting children in the UK and Australia to perform sexual acts via webcams, instructing them remotely.

Additionally, he admitted to holding 335 Category B movies and 41 Category C movies, which are less severe but still involve illegal content.
He was also charged with downloading movies across all categories, as well as five counts of inciting girls to engage in sexual acts and two counts of voyeurism—secretly recording others during private acts using their own cameras without their knowledge.
Prosecutor Simon Rogers outlined to Mold Crown Court how Hankers had managed to infiltrate private cameras within people's homes, capturing footage of adults having sex and children undressing.
During his arrest, authorities discovered that he had access to 16 active cameras located across Europe, Philadelphia, and the UK.
