WREXHAM MAN STEVEN FOWLES CAUGHT BY PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS IN NORTH WALES
In a case that has shocked the community of Wrexham and the surrounding areas, Steven Fowles, a 30-year-old man from Waverley Crescent, Rossett, was apprehended after being targeted by vigilant paedophile hunters operating in North Wales. The incident unfolded as Fowles engaged in online exchanges with what he believed were underage girls, but in reality, these were decoys operated by adult groups such as the Fleetwood Enforcers and Elite Solo Decoys.
Fowles’s online activity revealed a disturbing pattern of behavior, with him communicating with several decoy profiles claiming to be girls aged 13 and 14.
Prosecutor Sarah Badrawy detailed to the court that Fowles believed he was interacting with minors, which was confirmed through the messages he exchanged.
In one particular instance, he contacted a decoy posing as a 14-year-old girl, initially claiming to be 19, but later admitting to being nearly 30.
During their conversations, Fowles sent an indecent photograph of himself and requested a similar explicit image from the girl.
Despite the decoys being adult actors, Fowles’s intentions were clear and deeply troubling.
The authorities had been alerted to his activities when the Fleetwood Enforcers, a known online decoy group, prepared to conduct a sting operation aimed at catching him.
They shared screenshots of his messages with police and community support officers in July of the previous year.
Following this, law enforcement officials executed a warrant at his residence, leading to his arrest.
At Mold Crown Court, His Honour Niclas Parry addressed the severity of Fowles’s actions.
The judge emphasized that Fowles’s warped attitude towards children was evident in his attempts to establish sexual contact with multiple girls he believed to be 13 and 14 years old.
The court heard that Fowles lied about his age, encouraged the decoys to touch themselves sexually, and even suggested they should meet in person.
The judge condemned his reckless disregard for the safety and well-being of minors, highlighting the danger posed by such predatory behavior.
Fowles pleaded guilty to 14 child sex offences, including attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.
As part of his sentencing, he received a two-year prison sentence, which was suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was ordered to participate in the Horizon sex offender evaluation programme, designed to assess and manage his risk of reoffending.
The court also imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, prohibiting him from contacting girls under 16 and mandating the deletion of his internet search history.
Furthermore, Fowles was sentenced to complete 60 days of rehabilitation activities and perform 150 hours of unpaid community work, reflecting the seriousness with which the court viewed his actions and the need for ongoing supervision and intervention.
