BRADFORD MAN STEVEN CORBY SENTENCED TO NEARLY 20 YEARS FOR DECADES-OLD ABUSE CASES
In a case that has spanned over four decades, Steven Corby, a 68-year-old man from Bradford, has been sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against a young boy and girl during the 1970s.The court heard that Corby, who was a robust and capable young man at the time of the offenses, carried out these acts with a disturbing lack of remorse and empathy.
The judge, Jonathan Rose, emphasized that Corby’s current age and health issues were minor considerations compared to the suffering he inflicted on his victims.
“You have refused to accept any guilt or responsibility for your offending,” Judge Rose stated.
“I have seen not one iota of remorse from you and believe that you have none.
Indeed, the author of the pre-sentence report describes you as having scant empathy towards your victims.” Corby, whose address is listed as Derby Road, Thornbury, Bradford, was convicted by a jury of multiple serious sexual offenses.
These included acts that would now be classified as rape against the boy, as well as a separate incident involving a young girl.
Corby attempted to deny the charge related to the girl, claiming that she was a willing and consenting participant.
However, Judge Rose dismissed this assertion as a fabrication, noting that Corby did not provide any evidence in his defense as he chose not to give evidence in his own trial.
For legal reasons, the identities of the victims cannot be disclosed.
It is understood that the offenses took place in Calderdale during the 1970s.
Despite the passage of over 40 years since the crimes, Corby’s criminal history reveals a pattern of similar offending.
The judge highlighted that Corby had previous convictions for such offenses in 1969, 1975, 1980, 1981, and 1984, and had served prison sentences for those crimes.
Although he has not committed any further offenses since then, his past record underscores a troubling history of sexual misconduct.
Judge Rose described the crimes as “truly wicked,” noting that Corby appeared to have viewed the young boy as “a mere sexual commodity.” The court sentenced Corby to a total of 19 years in prison, with an additional extended license period of one year.
Furthermore, Corby will be required to register as a sex offender with the police for the remainder of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions related to his criminal behavior.
