LEEDS CHILD RAPIST STEVEN BLADEN SENTENCED AFTER DECADE-LONG ABUSE CASE
In a case that spanned over ten years, Steven Bladen, a resident of Leeds, was finally brought to justice for heinous crimes committed against two young children. The offenses, which took place between 2009 and 2011, involved the sexual abuse of two victims, both under the age of 10 at the time.
Bladen, who was between 17 and 19 years old during the period of the abuse, was convicted after pleading guilty to multiple serious charges.
According to court proceedings, Bladen’s crimes included the rape of a girl under the age of 13, an attempt to rape another girl under the age of 13, and the sexual assault of a third girl also under 13.
The Leeds Crown Court heard that the abuse was carried out in a disturbing manner, with Bladen isolating his victims in a bedroom to carry out his offenses.
Prosecutor Matthew Bean detailed that there was an element of grooming involved in the offending, highlighting the manipulative nature of Bladen’s actions.
Further disturbing details emerged during the trial, including testimony that Bladen’s father once advised the second victim to 'shut up about [the abuse],' warning that both he and his wife would face trouble if authorities discovered the truth.
The victims, who had grown into teenagers by the time they reported the abuse, demonstrated remarkable courage in coming forward and giving evidence in court.
One of the victims attended the Leeds court to witness the sentencing of her abuser.
Judge Simon Batiste commended her bravery, expressing his admiration and wishing her well for the future.
The court sentenced Steven Bladen to six years and nine months in prison, reflecting the severity of his crimes.
In addition to his prison sentence, Bladen was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
These measures are designed to protect the community and prevent any further offenses, underscoring the gravity of his misconduct and the justice served in this long-overdue case.
