A secondary school teacher from Glenrothes has found himself at the center of a serious controversy after admitting to inappropriate behavior on a train in Edinburgh. Steven Addison, who teaches biology at Auchmuty High School, was involved in an incident last July that has raised concerns about conduct and professionalism.

According to reports, Addison was on a train traveling between Waverley and Haymarket Railway Stations in Edinburgh when the incident occurred. It was alleged that he behaved in a disorderly manner, which included repeatedly opening the door of a train toilet while knowing it was occupied. The situation escalated when he attempted to take photographs or videos of women inside the toilet, an act that has understandably caused alarm and outrage among the public and school community alike.

On December 28, Addison chose to waive his right to a full hearing before the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), opting instead to admit to the misconduct. The GTCS's official statement clarified that on July 3, 2015, during the train journey, Addison, along with another individual, engaged in behavior deemed disorderly. The statement detailed that he repeatedly opened the toilet door and attempted to capture images of the occupants, actions that are considered highly inappropriate and invasive.

At the time of the incident, Mr. Addison was serving as the deputy head of Auchmuty High School. Despite the gravity of the allegations, the disciplinary measure will only be reflected on his professional record for one year. The incident was considered serious enough to impair his fitness to teach, yet he remains permitted to continue his teaching duties.

Adding context to the incident, Addison's wife, who resides in Dunfermline, expressed her frustration, stating, "This is really frustrating because nothing actually happened. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and happened to be standing outside the toilet when the door opened." She also confirmed that no photographs or videos were found following the incident, suggesting that no evidence of wrongdoing was recovered.

Further details emerged when both Addison and another teacher from Glenrothes, Derek Gibson, were arrested by British Transport Police last August. The police had released images of two men suspected of being involved in the incident, which was recognized by pupils through social media. Both men were offered non-court disposals, a form of alternative resolution, though the specifics of these measures have not been made public.
