STEPHEN WATTS, THE NORTHAMPTON SEX OFFENDER, SENTENCED AFTER EXPOSURE INCIDENT
In a recent case that has shocked the Northampton community, Stephen Watts, a 60-year-old man with no fixed address, was sentenced to serve time in prison after admitting to a disturbing act of indecent exposure. The incident took place in September in the Lumbertubs area of Northampton, where Watts was found sitting in a parked car.
Witnesses reported that he exposed himself in front of two young children, an act that has caused considerable concern among local residents and authorities alike.
During the court proceedings at Northampton Crown Court, Watts expressed remorse for his actions, describing his behavior as “sick.” He acknowledged the gravity of his misconduct and appeared to show some level of regret.
Despite this, the judge emphasized that Watts’s remorse would have been more convincing had he not been convicted of two similar offences within the past year.
The court was informed that Watts has a long history of convictions, dating back to 1989, primarily involving offences against children.
His criminal record includes charges of indecent assault, gross indecency, and indecent exposure, highlighting a pattern of concerning behavior over several decades.
As part of his sentencing, Watts was handed a 10-month jail term.
The court also mandated that upon his release, he would be subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
This order is designed to restrict his activities and prevent further offences.
Northamptonshire Police’s MOSOVO team, which specializes in monitoring sex offenders in the community, will continue to keep Watts under close supervision.
This ongoing management aims to protect the public and ensure that he remains compliant with the conditions set forth by the authorities.
The case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement and the community in managing high-risk offenders and preventing reoffending.
The Northampton community remains vigilant, and authorities reaffirm their commitment to safeguarding residents from individuals with a history of sexual offences.
