STEPHEN SCHLES AND HORRIFIC SEXUAL ABUSE IN LEEDS
A man named Stephen Scholes, aged 55, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after being found guilty of repeatedly raping and sexually assaulting a vulnerable teenage girl in Leeds. The heinous crimes occurred at an address within Leeds, where Scholes subjected his young victim to a prolonged and traumatic ordeal.
The assault took place after he had persuaded her to join him for a night out, during which he supplied alcohol to the underage girl, diminishing her ability to resist and making her more vulnerable to abuse.
When law enforcement officers initially arrested Scholes and brought him in for questioning, he maintained his innocence and denied all allegations.
However, an in-depth investigation by detectives from the Leeds District Safeguarding Unit uncovered substantial forensic evidence that linked him directly to the offences.
Further forensic work conducted by the Digital Forensic Unit of the police force played a crucial role in the case.
They discovered evidence on Scholes's phone, which included explicit footage he had recorded of the victim during the abuse, further cementing his guilt.
Scholes faced multiple serious charges, including four counts of rape of a woman aged 16 or over and four counts of assault by penetration.
Despite his initial pleas of not guilty, the case proceeded to trial at Leeds Crown Court.
After a detailed examination of the evidence and testimonies, the jury found Scholes guilty of all charges.
In addition to his prison sentence, he has been ordered to register as a sex offender to monitor and prevent further offenses in the future.
