June 2010 Jail for man who sexually assaulted girl, 8, at kennels A 49-year-old man who sexually assaulted a young girl while she was visiting a Wakefield kennels has been jailed for two-and-a-half years. Stephen Pollitt was found guilty following a trial last month and yesterday Judge James Goss QC ordered him to register as a sex offender for life. Bradford Crown Court heard how the eight-year-old victim had gone to the Oakenshaw Kennels on Doncaster Road, Crofton, with a relative. While the relative was engaged in conversation, Pollitt, who lived in a caravan on the site, offered to take the girl to see some of the animals. The court heard that while Pollitt was alone with the girl he picked her up and indecently touched her. The distressed victim reported the incident to her relative, but when Pollitt was challenged he said he did not know what the girl was talking about. Pollitt, now of Stearbsy Farm, Bransby, York, told police he had drunk up to 14 cans of lager on the day of the incident last June and his barrister Tim Stead said his client still maintained his innocence. Judge Goss told Pollitt: “You have no appreciation of the damage caused by your behaviour and you have no remorse.” The judge said he had seen the girl give evidence at court and she had been deeply upset. Under the sexual offences prevention order Pollitt is banned from seeking any kind of work which may lead to unsupervised contact with children under 16.
