YORK MAN JAILED FOR NINE YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
A man has been sentenced to prison for sexually abusing a nine-year-old girl after she courageously reported the abuse more than 30 years later.Carlysle Noel, 68, of Beverley Road in East Driffield, received a nine-year term at York Crown Court on Tuesday (14 December).
Last month, Noel was convicted of three counts of indecent assault that took place in 1990, when the victim was nine years old.
His sentence includes nine years behind bars, plus a one-year prison release licence, and a strict Sexual Harm Prevention Order valid for 16 years. Furthermore, Noel will be on the Sex Offenders Register permanently.
He was found not guilty of a related indecent assault charge.
The woman, now in her early 40s, reported the abuse to North Yorkshire Police in May 2020. An investigation followed, leading to Noel’s arrest and charges in January 2021 for four counts of indecent assault at a home in the York area.
Detective Sergeant Alex Jackson commended the victim's bravery, stating, “This woman showed remarkable courage in coming forward to report these traumatic crimes, which she suffered over three decades ago. Despite Noel’s denials during the investigation, her resilience during the trial helped bring justice.”
He conveyed hope that, although nothing can recover her lost innocence, this conviction might aid her healing and help her look toward a more positive future.
Investigator Dave Horne’s persistent efforts, especially given the difficulties of the pandemic, were also noted as crucial in bringing this case to conclusion.
