HOLIDAY HELL: ABUSER ADMITS SIX-YEAR CAMPAIGN OF FEAR AGAINST PARTNER
A man has admitted carrying out a prolonged campaign of domestic abuse against his former partner spanning six years.Stephen McMillan pleaded guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court to a charge under the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018, admitting a sustained course of abusive behaviour between April 2019 and April 2025.
The court heard that throughout the relationship, McMillan repeatedly shouted and swore at his partner, behaved aggressively towards her, and subjected her to constant criticism.
He also demanded money from her and insisted she buy alcohol for him.
While the couple were on holiday in Lanzarote, McMillan admitted striking her on the body with a pillow during an incident.
The abuse also included repeated offensive remarks and threats of violence, leaving his victim living under an ongoing pattern of intimidation.
The court heard he repeatedly demanded that the woman’s daughter leave the family home and remove posters from her bedroom.
On another occasion, McMillan threw a cup or similar object towards his partner before kicking her, causing her to stumble.
The offending was prosecuted under the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018, which recognises coercive and controlling behaviour as a criminal offence.
McMillan entered a guilty plea at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
Sentencing will take place at a later date.
