MIDDLESBROUGH MAN STEPHEN LANCASTER SENTENCED FOR PREDATORY ONLINE SEX OFFENCES AGAINST TEESSIDE SCHOOLGIRL
In June 2022, a disturbing case emerged involving Stephen Lancaster, a 46-year-old resident of Middlesbrough, who engaged in highly inappropriate and illegal online behavior targeting a schoolgirl from Teesside.Lancaster, operating from his home in Marton, created multiple fake identities on Snapchat, a popular photo-sharing social media platform, with the intent of carrying out what prosecutors described as 'predatory' and 'sick' fantasies.
Using six different aliases, Lancaster initiated sexualized conversations with a young girl from Teesside, posing as a teenager to gain her trust.
During one of these exchanges, he explicitly asked, 'Can I see your boobs,' demonstrating a blatant disregard for boundaries and the law.
The police investigation revealed that Lancaster's iPhone contained a significant amount of illegal material, including images and videos of children, which further underscored the severity of his offending.
Authorities first became aware of Lancaster's activities when they received information linking a Snapchat profile to his email address.
This led to his arrest in Middlesbrough in September of the previous year, during which his iPhone was confiscated for forensic analysis.
Examination of the device confirmed that Lancaster's email was logged into the phone, and the camera roll contained images of children in swimsuits, raising immediate concerns about exploitation.
Further forensic scrutiny uncovered six Snapchat aliases associated with Lancaster, each containing sexually explicit chat histories.
Some of the conversations included phrases such as 'Are we going to get naughty' and 'Can I see your boobs,' illustrating his persistent attempts to engage a minor in sexualized dialogue.
The device also held indecent images and videos, including one image and one video classified as Category B, and twenty images categorized as Category C, all depicting children.
These offenses spanned from June 2019 to September of the previous year.
During police interviews, Lancaster admitted to possessing indecent images and to operating the multiple Snapchat accounts.
His solicitor, Michele Turner, argued that Lancaster has a desire to work with agencies to address his offending behavior, suggesting a potential for rehabilitation.
However, the court was informed that Lancaster had no prior convictions and this was his first appearance before a crown court.
Previously, Lancaster pleaded guilty to charges of causing or inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity, including exposing her breasts and sending an image of them.
The case was heard at Teesside Crown Court, where Judge Howard Crowson described Lancaster's conduct as 'very serious offending' that had taken place over several years.
The judge emphasized that Lancaster's conversations with the girl were 'flirtatious,' and that she believed she was communicating with a peer of her own age.
Judge Crowson highlighted Lancaster's method of posing as a teenager through false online accounts to satisfy his sexual interests in young girls.
His behavior was characterized as 'persistent' and 'predatory,' reflecting a calculated effort to exploit vulnerable minors.
As a result of his actions, Lancaster was sentenced to two years and four months in prison for inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity.
Additionally, he received concurrent sentences for the possession of indecent images.
The court also imposed a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and notification requirements, aimed at monitoring and restricting Lancaster's future conduct to protect the community from further harm.
