OFFENDER WHO THOUGHT HE WAS TALKING TO A 13-YEAR-OLD GETS PROBATION & SEX OFFENDERS' PROGRAMME
A man wrecked his career when he got involved in a sexual chat on the internet - thinking he was talking to a girl aged 13.
In reality, 56-year-old Stephen Johnson was in conversation with a police officer posing as a child, Nottingham Crown Court heard.
He was must attend a sex offenders' programme during three years on probation.
He pleaded guilty to two charges and was told the order was "a direct alternative to a prison sentence." Judge James Sampson added: "You have lost your good character in what was, I am certain, short lived extremely foolish behaviour.
"I understand you are thoroughly ashamed of yourself and remorseful.
I don't think we will see you again.
I very much hope not." Matthew Smith, mitigating, said it was "an isolated incident" and that Johnson had never been in trouble before.
"The consequence of his offending behaviour is of big significance.
He has lost his career of 37 years," added Mr Smith for Johnson of Kimberley Road.
Early on, Johnson asked: "Have you kissed?" Later he asked about sexual acts, gave his age and said that he was divorced.
"There was a degree of grooming behaviour," added Mr Stanford.
