BLACKBURN MAN JAILED FOR CHRISTMAS ASSAULT ON EX-PARTNER
A woman, Nicola Sayers, went to her ex-partner Stephen John O'Callaghan's flat on Christmas Day and discovered another woman there.The incident resulted in Nicola waking up on the living room floor bruised and battered.
O'Callaghan admitted responsibility for her injuries but could not remember what happened.
He pleaded guilty to assaulting Nicola Sayers and was sentenced to 100 days in jail.
The court heard that the couple had a five-year on-and-off relationship, and just weeks prior, they had decided to try again.
On Christmas Eve, Nicola went out with her mother and partner, consuming a lot of vodka.
There was a vague memory of an argument and shouting.
The next thing she recalls is waking up on the living room floor with bruises and a black eye, and seeing O'Callaghan standing over her.
Prosecutor Philippa White noted that nobody knew how Miss Sayers ended up injured, and her defense indicated the case was unusual due to the uncertainty surrounding the injuries.
