Former soldier jailed for violent domestic abuse in Plymouth

FORMER SOLDIER JAILED FOR VIOLENT DOMESTIC ABUSE IN PLYMOUTH

James Treanor, aged 39, a trained kick boxer and former soldier, has been convicted and sentenced for violent domestic abuse.

He attacked his partner, leaving her battered and bruised, and also threatened her with a knife, saying he would kill her.

During his trial at Plymouth Crown Court, the jury found him guilty on three counts: causing actual bodily harm, making threats to kill, and common assault.

The court heard that Treanor's actions included pushing the victim to the floor, pulling out a knife, and holding it close to her.

The judge, Ian Lawrie, sentenced him to three years and three months in prison and issued an indefinite restraining order to prevent him from approaching or contacting his ex-partner.

Treanor, who has no fixed address, had previously denied assaulting the woman in December last year and making threats to kill in August, but was convicted on all counts after a two-day trial.

Emily Cook from the CPS noted that Treanor's background as a kick boxer did not protect him from the law, and that the victim still fears him, considering moving away.

Treanor had served five years in the Royal Tank Regiment and his partner described their relationship as 'mutually destructive,' with Treanor experiencing depression and increased drinking during this period.

His sentence included a consecutive term for assault causing actual bodily harm, and the court also granted a restraining order to protect the victim.
