STEPHEN ALEC BROWN SENTENCED IN HELSTON FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING YOUNG GIRL

Stephen Alec Brown, a 64-year-old resident of Helston in Cornwall, has been handed a significant prison sentence following his conviction on multiple serious sexual offenses. The case, which was heard at Truro Crown Court, revealed that Brown was found guilty of four counts of indecent assault against a girl under the age of 16, as well as a charge of rape. These allegations stemmed from a disturbing history of abuse involving a woman who endured sexual violence during her teenage years.

Throughout the proceedings, it was disclosed that the victim had been subjected to Brown’s abuse over a prolonged period, and her inability to escape the situation was largely due to financial constraints that kept her living in Helston, the same town where her attacker resided. The victim’s emotional testimony painted a harrowing picture of the long-term trauma inflicted by Brown’s actions. She described experiencing persistent flashbacks, nightmares, and severe post-traumatic stress disorder, which have profoundly impacted her personal relationships and daily functioning.

In her victim impact statement, she expressed the enduring pain caused by Brown, stating, “I have been having flashbacks and nightmares for years, and what Brown did to me will stay with me forever.” She also shared her ongoing fears, including her reluctance to take her son to football practice for fear of encountering her abuser again. The court heard that Brown’s offending had remained unreported for many years, with victims only finding the courage to come forward after enduring years of silent suffering.

During sentencing, the judge observed that Brown had shown no remorse for his actions and had continued his life seemingly indifferent to the damage he had caused. In mitigation, Brown’s legal representatives highlighted his poor health, noting that he had suffered a heart attack in 2010, and pointed out that he had not committed any offenses for the past 25 years. Despite these factors, the court decided on a substantial prison term, with Brown being sentenced to serve two-thirds of his 10-year sentence before becoming eligible for parole. Additionally, he will be subject to lifelong registration as a sex offender and will be subject to a lifetime restraining order that prohibits any contact with his victims.
