On Christmas Day, Stephan Mann, a 41-year-old man, assaulted his partner while under the influence of alcohol, leading her to fear for her life.
Throughout the previous day, Mann had been verbally abusive, accusing his partner of being unfaithful.
He had also expressed his desires for her death and issued threats of violence on several occasions, which he confided to a friend.
At approximately 4pm, Mann physically attacked her by tackling her to the floor, stamping on her head, and threatening to kill her.
His friend managed to intervene during the assault, stopping Mann and enabling the victim to flee and contact police at their home in Soham, close to Ely.
At a hearing on 13 November at Peterborough Crown Court, Mann admitted to causing actual bodily harm and to engaging in controlling and coercive behavior.
He was sentenced to serve one year and six months in custody.
