DAVID PAUL FROM SOHAM SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN LONDON
In May 2017, a man from Soham named David Paul was sentenced to a total of four years in prison after being convicted of two serious sexual offences. The crimes, which involved a minor girl under the age of 14, have brought significant concern to the local community and highlight ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable individuals from abuse.David John Paul, whose address is listed as Staploe Mews in Soham, faced a trial at the Old Bailey in London. The jury reached a majority verdict, finding him guilty of indecent assault on a female child. This particular charge involved inappropriate and unlawful sexual contact with a young girl, a crime that carries severe legal consequences due to the vulnerability of the victim.
In addition to the indecent assault, Paul was also convicted of inciting a girl under the age of fourteen to engage in sexual activity. This offence involved encouraging or persuading a minor to participate in sexual acts, which is considered a grave violation of the law and a serious threat to the safety and well-being of minors.
The court sentenced David Paul to four years in prison for the indecent assault, and this sentence was to run concurrently with the four-year term imposed for inciting the minor to have sex. The concurrent sentencing means that he will serve the same period for both offences, effectively spending four years behind bars.
Following his conviction, Paul will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), a legal measure designed to restrict his activities and prevent any further harm. Additionally, he will be added to the Barring List, which will prohibit him from engaging in certain types of employment that could put others at risk, especially work involving children or vulnerable individuals. These measures are part of the broader efforts to ensure public safety and prevent repeat offences by individuals convicted of sexual crimes.
