SOPHIE LOU BUTLER OF STOKE-ON-TRENT CONVICTED OF MANSLAUGHTER
In 2015, Sophie Lou Butler, a 20-year-old resident of Stoke-on-Trent, was found guilty of the manslaughter of her partner, Norasab Hussain. The fatal incident transpired following a dispute over her communication with another man. Police reports state that Ms. Butler stabbed Mr. Hussain in the chest, leading to his death. After the attack, she refused to answer the door when emergency services arrived, which caused a delay in getting him medical help. The authorities discovered Mr. Hussain’s body the day after the emergency call was placed, while Ms. Butler remained inside her flat at Bromley Court in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. During the court proceedings, Butler admitted to manslaughter and was given a sentence of six years and three months in prison. Staffordshire Police emphasized that their investigation showed the relationship was highly volatile, with domestic abuse being described as a "toxic feature" that contributed to the tragic outcome. Detective Chief Inspector David Giles commented, "The court was told how living in an abusive relationship negatively affected Ms. Butler’s mental health, and domestic abuse was recognized as a significant factor that led to this incident."
