BRADFORD MAN SONIA MIHAN ESCAPES JAIL AFTER GROPING GIRLS IN BRADFORD
In June 2016, a disturbing case emerged involving Sona Miah, a 48-year-old man from Bradford, who was found guilty of sexually assaulting three young girls over a period spanning from 2011 to 2013.The victims, whose ages ranged from just seven to 14 years old, endured a series of inappropriate and deeply troubling encounters that left lasting emotional scars.
According to the court proceedings, prosecutor Ian Howard detailed how Miah would inappropriately touch the girls by hugging them and squeezing or cupping their breasts over their clothing.
These acts were described as both disgusting and perverted, highlighting the severity of the misconduct.
The assaults persisted for several years until February of the previous year, when one of the victims confided in a teacher, prompting authorities to intervene and initiate an investigation.
Following his arrest, Miah was taken into custody and interviewed by police.
During questioning, he denied any sexual intent behind his actions.
It was only on the day of his scheduled trial last month that he pleaded guilty to four charges of sexual assault on a child under the age of 13.
The court heard victim impact statements, which revealed that each girl was profoundly affected by Miah’s actions.
They described feelings of shock and anger, which contributed to their withdrawal from social activities, a decline in confidence, and difficulties concentrating at school.
Judge Jonathan Rose addressed the court, emphasizing the emotional toll inflicted upon the victims.
He condemned Miah’s behavior as causing “great upset and distress” and pointed out the disturbing nature of his actions.
The judge remarked that Miah, who was described as a “happily married man,” demonstrated a profound and wholly inappropriate sexual attraction to children, which explained his offending.
Despite the gravity of his crimes, Judge Rose acknowledged Miah’s expressions of remorse and his stated desire to change, suggesting that immediate imprisonment was not necessary.
Instead, Miah was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work and participate in a 60-day sex offender treatment program.
As part of his sentence, Miah is also required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct.
