SKYE TANSWELL JAILED FOR SEXUAL CHAT WITH PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS IN IPSWICH
A 34-year-old man from Ipswich, identified as Skye Tanswell, has been sentenced to three years in prison following his involvement in online conversations that involved explicit sexual content with individuals posing as underage girls.The incident took place in Ipswich, where Tanswell engaged in a series of disturbing online exchanges with members of a paedophile hunter group, who were pretending to be two 14-year-old girls.
According to court reports, Tanswell actively participated in these chats via WhatsApp, during which he sent explicit photographs of himself to the decoys.
He also made explicit requests for them to send images of their breasts.
The conversations revealed that Tanswell was not only seeking to engage in sexual communication but also discussing the possibility of meeting in person within Suffolk.
He expressed a desire to meet the decoys and even discussed what he would do in a sexual context with one of them.
Prosecutor Nicola May outlined that during the exchanges, Tanswell advised one of the decoys to lie or cut off contact if her parents entered the room, claiming he would get into trouble for being in contact with someone his age.
These conversations demonstrated a clear intent to pursue a sexual relationship with a minor, despite the decoys being part of a sting operation.
Tanswell, who resides on Gippeswyk Road in Ipswich, admitted to multiple charges, including three counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and one count of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.
These offences occurred during the previous year, highlighting a pattern of concerning behaviour.
Following his arrest, Tanswell was not only sentenced to a three-year prison term but was also subjected to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the same duration, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
During the sentencing, Judge Emma Peters remarked that despite Tanswell's arrest for his online interactions, he resumed contact with one of the decoys after being released under investigation.
This demonstrated a troubling persistence in his inappropriate behaviour.
Tanswell's legal representative, Joanne Eley, provided context for his actions, stating that he suffers from mental health issues and has learning and behavioural difficulties.
She explained that he has been in custody since March of the previous year and has been working towards becoming an improved prisoner, engaging with mental health services while incarcerated.
Eley also revealed that Tanswell's offences were committed during a period when he was experiencing boredom and using cannabis, which may have contributed to his actions.
Despite these mitigating factors, the court emphasized the seriousness of his conduct and the need for stringent measures to protect the public from potential harm.
