MAN JAILED FOR NEARLY 17 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND CONTROLLING BEHAVIOUR
A man who committed acts of physical and sexual abuse against a woman has received a prison sentence of nearly 17 years.Sion Evans, from Waterloo Street, Caernarfon, controlled and mistreated the woman through physical violence and sexual misconduct.
He appeared before Caernarfon Crown Court on 14 July for sentencing, having previously pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behavior.
He denied the sexual assault charge but was convicted after a trial at Mold Crown Court in May.
Throughout his abusive campaign, Evans inflicted physical attacks and issued threats that kept the woman in constant fear for her life.
This included strangling her until she could not breathe and damaging her vehicle by smashing the windscreen during an outburst.
His threatening actions and violence caused her to fear both sleeping and making reports to the police.
At the sentencing hearing, he was given an extended sentence of 16 years and 9 months.
He was also issued an indefinite restraining order and ordered to remain on the police register indefinitely.
