At Caernarfon Crown Court on March 9, Liam Wheeler was given a suspended jail sentence after admitting to assaulting Kayleigh Skelly on January 7.
The 29-year-old resident of Jubilee Road, Middleton, received a sentence of one year, suspended for the same period, with a warning that any breach could lead to immediate custody.
Prosecutor Emmalyne Downing stated that Wheeler caused Ms Skelly to have black eyes and a swollen lip through his assault.
He subsequently approached the police to confess to his actions.
Court reports revealed that during the incident, Ms Skelly attempted to take a cigarette from Wheeler, who responded by hitting her multiple times in the face, holding her down, and kicking her.
The court also heard that Wheeler made threats to end his life.
In court, defence lawyer Myles Wilson pointed out that Wheeler, with three previous convictions, had now ended his relationship with Ms Skelly.
Wilson mentioned Wheeler’s ten years in the Armed Forces and his ongoing struggle to re-adjust to civilian life.
He was ordered to complete 20 days of rehabilitation programs.
Judge Jones indicated she would hold further sentencing over his failure to comply with the suspended sentence obligations.
