SIMON WILKINSON BRADFORD CHILD ABUSE IMAGES BAN AND SEX OFFENDER ORDER

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Bradford community, Simon Wilkinson, a 30-year-old man from Hill Street, Wibsey, was brought before Bradford Crown Court to face serious charges related to the possession of indecent images of children and extreme pornography.

The court heard that Wilkinson had accumulated a disturbing collection of approximately 1,800 images, which included both still photographs and videos depicting children aged between six and 14 years old.

During the proceedings, it was revealed that the majority of these images were classified at the lower end of the severity scale, with most being at the first level.

However, the court was also shown that Wilkinson possessed 36 images categorized at level two, along with three images at level three and four at level four.

Alarmingly, there was a single image identified at the most serious level five, indicating the presence of highly explicit material.

Judge Peter Benson, presiding over the case, sentenced Wilkinson to a 12-month community order.

As part of his punishment, Wilkinson was ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid work and participate in a 15-day activity program designed to increase his awareness of the impact of his actions on victims.

The judge emphasized the gravity of Wilkinson’s offenses, stating, “The evil of this type of offending is that it encourages the making of images of young children who are abused for the gratification of adults.” Judge Benson also addressed Wilkinson’s apparent minimization of his culpability, noting that Wilkinson claimed the images were downloaded accidentally and that he had deleted them.

Despite these claims, the court found evidence that Wilkinson had been actively visiting child abuse websites on his computer, suggesting a deliberate pursuit of such material for sexual gratification.

While acknowledging Wilkinson’s guilty plea, the judge recognized his otherwise good character, his hard-working nature, and the positive testimony from his partner.

Nevertheless, Wilkinson was found to have committed serious offenses, including two counts of possessing indecent images of children and one count of possessing three extreme pornographic images depicting bestiality.

Prosecutor Alasdair Campbell clarified that there was no evidence Wilkinson had distributed the images, and the court noted that the number of images at the highest levels of severity was limited.

In mitigation, Wilkinson’s solicitor, Andrew Walker, explained that his client maintained he had initially come across the images while exploring the internet for films and games.

Walker added that Wilkinson had pleaded guilty after returning to the sites, fully aware of the content he was viewing.

In addition to the community order, Judge Benson imposed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which restricts Wilkinson’s use of computers and bars him from seeking employment that could give him unsupervised access to children.

Wilkinson was also ordered to register as a sex offender for five years and to pay prosecution costs amounting to £1,200.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and the judiciary to combat the proliferation of child abuse images and protect vulnerable minors from exploitation.
