SIMON PHELAN FROM BASINGSTOKE JAILED FOR RAPE AND DRUGGING TEENAGE GIRL IN SHOCKING CRIME

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Basingstoke, Simon Phelan, aged 41, has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison after being found guilty of heinous crimes involving the sexual assault of a teenage girl. The court heard how Phelan, who resides in Basingstoke, Hampshire, committed these acts in a calculated and malicious manner, including the use of drugs to incapacitate his young victim.

According to court proceedings, Phelan took photographs of himself abusing the 17-year-old girl while she was under the influence of drugs. These images, which he later showed to his colleagues at his workplace, included explicit content and served as a chilling testament to his misconduct. The court was informed that Phelan had also boasted about using chloroform to render the girl unconscious, a detail that added to the severity of his crimes.

The case came to light after Phelan’s supervisor at work discovered the photographs and showed them to the girl’s boyfriend. This act prompted the boyfriend to contact law enforcement authorities, leading to an investigation that uncovered the full extent of Phelan’s actions. The girl, who cannot be named due to legal restrictions, was unaware that she had been raped until she was shown the explicit photographs, which confirmed her worst fears.

Further evidence revealed that Phelan had drugged the girl on at least one other occasion by slipping tablets into her drink. The drugs used included chloroform, which he had obtained from his then-girlfriend, a nurse employed at Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey. The court heard how Phelan instructed the girl to sniff the drug on a towel, claiming it would help her relax and dream, but in reality, it was used to facilitate his sexual assault.

Law enforcement officers executed a raid on Phelan’s residence in Basingstoke, where they discovered a stash of drugs, including chloroform. Initially, Phelan attempted to deny any wrongdoing, claiming that the girl had consented to the drug use and sexual activity. However, during the trial, he admitted to raping her, acknowledging the criminal acts he had committed.

Judge Guy Boney QC sentenced Phelan to seven and a half years in prison, emphasizing that his actions had betrayed the trust placed in him and that such behavior warranted strict punishment. The judge also ordered that Phelan be registered as a sex offender indefinitely, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes.

Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Daniel Roberts expressed relief that the victim’s boyfriend had come forward, stating, “We are relieved that the boyfriend of this girl came forward, otherwise we may never have known what Phelan had done. He is now serving a considerable sentence for his vile crime.” He added, “The effect on the victim has been pretty dramatic, inevitably. She was totally violated by someone she trusted.”
